For VWA members who want to contribute.

This joint VWA–StandICT.eu group connects standards intelligence with the European Virtual Worlds Partnership and NOVA. It maintains the virtual-worlds, Web 4.0, XR and metaverse standards landscape, identifies gaps and overlapping approaches, and brings European use cases and requirements into relevant standardisation activities. The group promotes awareness and mobilises expertise to improve interoperability and European participation. It prepares evidence and recommendations for competent standards-development organisations; formal standards remain the responsibility of those organisations.

Standardisation, interoperability and regulatory alignment are cross-cutting priorities for virtual worlds and Web 4.0. Building on the StandICT.eu technical working group, the initiative connects StandICT.eu2029, EUOS and NOVA with Partnership SRIDA/Web 4.0 priorities and relevant bodies, including ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC 24, AG 23 and ETSI.

  1. Maintain a searchable, up-to-date virtual-worlds standards landscape.
  2. Assess and prioritise gaps, overlaps and conflicting approaches against interoperability, industrial, societal, regulatory and European interests.
  3. Mobilise VWA use cases, requirements, implementation barriers and sector priorities.
  4. Strengthen European participation by mapping activities, expertise and participation pathways.
  5. Transfer validated needs and recommendations into formal and industry standardisation processes.
